Boris (b. February 29, 1892, Stretinsk, Siberia; d. October 28, 1962, Yokohama, Japan) was the president of the Shanghai Russian Ashkenazi Jewish Community for over 20 years, for which he was brutally tortured by the Japanese in the Bridge House Prison for ten months. This is documented in the Hong Kong War Crimes Tribunal where guards and the head of the prison in Shanghai were tried. He is buried in the Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery. The Jewish community of Japan asked to note on his headstone “He gave his life for his people”.
