Historical | Bertha arrived in HK only one year before and she married her husband a short time after that. He was the manager of Athena Studio, located in Gloucester Building. Her parents were Russian (her mother was born in Kherson, which is now in Ukraine) living in Shanghai. According to her obituary, her father had died six weeks earlier on January 1st. He was 60. In 1929, Mary (sister?) was living in Sheffield. Her husband, Harry, was an able seaman in the Royal Navy. The Bassises may be related to Amalie Herzberg (1H13)‘s family. |
