Historical | She and her husband were only married for one year when she died. Husband, Raphael Eliyahu Sassoon, was married two more times after her death. His second wife was Habiba Rebecca Salha Solomon (b. circa 1862), the daughter of Ezekiel Solomon of Baghdad. Together, they had eight children. He and his third wife, whom he married in 1880, celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on June 9, 1905 (as reported in the Hongkong Telegraph). He had been resident in Singapore for almost 20 years. For many years, he was in business partnership with Messrs Meyer and Co. He later opened his own business known as R. Sassoon and Co., which was later managed by his son, Elias. He died on September 24, 1909 (erev Yom Kippur 5670) in Singapore at the age of 70. Rachel was married to Moise Abraham Sassoon of Alexandria. Her father was born in Cairo so perhaps they were cousins. |
