|Historical||Melville was born at home, which the Hong Kong Weekly Press noted as “Kurrahjeen”. This was 7 Peak Road, which today is Old Peak Road. He also died at home.
Edward Shellim was the chairman of HSBC from 1908 – 1912. He also served as the president of Ohel Leah. The Shellims were also related to the Sassoons.
A story carried in the Hong Kong Daily Press on October 9, 1918, says that Edward retired from the management of Messrs. David Sassoon & Co. and left HK for Japan. A 1928 story says that he went to Shanghai for two years before settling in the UK. In any case, he died on December 7, 1928 in Brighton, as the result of a fall from a horse. He was 59.
