Historical

She and her husband had been living in Harbin for more than 40 years. An Ovsey Kaner (male) died in Harbin. This may be her father-in-law.

They were planning to move to Israel where one of their sons was living. The other son was living in Japan at the time of her passing.

A Nathan Moses Kaner (b. July 31, 1920, Harbin, d. June 16, 1999, San Francisco), his wife, Olga Kaner (b. July 24, 1924, Shanghai), and their daughter, Naomi Kaner (b. November 11, 1955, HK; d. January 12, 1996, New Haven, CT), applied to US naturalization in 1960. They were previously living in Israel. Their other child was Angelica Kaner (b. 1958, HK). Naomi married Marcello Baldocchi in San Francisco in 1978 and divorced him in 1983.

Nathan had a sister, Clara (Lala) Kaner Bell (b. March 7, 1919, Harbin), who died in the US on June 23, 2001. Her parents names are listed as Moses Kaner and Frima Marfulis (probably Margolis). Perhaps she and Nathan are Rebecca’s niece and nephew as the headstone refers to Rebecca being an aunt. Her obituary mentions her late husband Mike Bell, daughter Ilona, son Ted and his wife Barbara, and their grandchildren Tony, Andy, Bobby and Leslie, but no mention of her parents or siblings.

The Hebrew incorrectly states that she was 48. Inset at the top of the stone – possibly for a photograph?
